An Introduction to Ferdowsi Studies and Shahnameh Research

Yaqoob Yasna's introduction runs in five parts. The first sets out what is known of Ferdowsi himself. The second examines why he undertook the Shahnameh at all. The third takes the poem from four directions at once — as history, as content, as literature and as a subject of research. The fourth turns to the Shahnameh's cultural ties with Afghanistan and the country's place within the poem. The fifth counts the Arabic words in it. Text in Dari/Persian.
