The History of the “Conquered Territories of Afghanistan”

Dr. Mohiuddin Mahdi opens with the line attributed to Hitler — if we take the place, we write the history — and argues that a great deal of Afghan historiography proves the point, including work by authors who took care not to look like partisans of the winning side. Plenty of those outside the victorious current have noticed as much; few have shown a way out of it. His subject is what that way looks like: the events left in the margins and counted unimportant, read between the lines of the victors' history. Text in Dari/Persian.
