Sacred Tribulations (2-volume set)

Nasim Rahrow's account of imprisonment and torture under the People's Democratic Party of Afghanistan, complete in two volumes. Many such memoirs have appeared over the past two decades; its editor sets this one apart for its fairness — Rahrow records the small decencies he met in his jailers as readily as the cruelties, which is rarer in prison writing than it sounds. The first volume appeared in 2015 and has been reprinted several times in Europe and inside Afghanistan. Text in Dari/Persian.
