Ashes and Hope: From Kabul to Chicago (English edition)

Fazel Ahad Ahadi's novel of a professor's passage from Kabul to Chicago. The opening scene has him alone in his office before leaving it for the last time, speaking to the framed portraits on the wall — Rumi, and beside him the poet Qahhar Asi — turning their lines about departure back on them: go, you said, but where, when the earth has turned its arms away.
