The Forgery of History and the History of Forgery in Afghanistan

Reading through the histories of Afghanistan, Dr. Mohiuddin Mahdi kept running into passages that plainly contradict reliable contemporary sources. Sometimes the cause is nothing worse than a careless writer quoting badly; sometimes it is deliberate, undertaken to falsify and distort. Beyond that, writers without access to first-hand material have leaned on later sources and delivered wrong verdicts on historical questions — a problem compounded by how few references there are, and by how much of Afghanistan's historical record remains unknown to researchers. Text in Dari/Persian.
