From This Shop of Sugar

The collected verse of Abdullah Arif Chah-Abi, who lived from 1260 to 1322 of the Khorshidi calendar and was born, by most accounts, in the village of Takhn-Abad in the Chah-Ab district of Takhar. He came to poetry at fifteen and never put it down, keeping at the work of coaxing the angel of inspiration even through his final years, when hardship, destitution and blindness arrived on him all at once. His divan was first gathered, printed and published by Mohammad Ibrahim Chah-Abi in 1373, the fruit of more than ten years of patient labour. Text in Dari/Persian.
