The Struggle Is My Life

A Dari edition of Nelson Mandela's The Struggle Is My Life. The translator's introduction recounts meeting Mandela first as a law and political science student at Kabul University, through Mahvash Gholami's Persian translation of Long Walk to Freedom — a chapter in and he knew he had a major historical and literary work in front of him, and started taking notes. What he values is that, unlike so many lives of great figures, it makes no idol or saint of its subject: it keeps faith with an ordinary Black South African who goes from village shepherd boy to rebel and leader, gets things wrong, is by his own admission a young man making up for what he did not know with belligerence, and learns from his mistakes. Text in Dari/Persian.
