Torn Uterus

Tamana Esar writes in the voice of a woman of the war generation: conceived and torn in a dark night, grown up amid smoke and gunpowder, washed in the blood of the dead and perfumed with fire, mortar fire for a call to prayer, a strip of shroud for swaddling and the laments of orphans for a lullaby. Body, soul and even pain, she writes, are tired of hurting. And yet the sun of love is still up in her, and poems of hope and freedom still run in her veins, tearing slowly at a fogged fate. Text in Dari/Persian.
