The Fourth Day

A story for children by Zabih Mahdi, told straight to the reader — “Hello, my young friend. Today is the first day of our story.” A tortoise is crossing the forest towards the shore to lay her eggs when the monkey shouts down from his tree: does she not see the yellow dot? He drew it on the ground himself, and she has no right to cross it. How she is then supposed to reach the shore is, the monkey says proudly, not his concern. Text in Dari/Persian.
